The U.S. Department of Education will honor Star Valley High School along with other Blue Ribbon Schools at a recognition ceremony in Washington, DC on November 12 and 13. Each school will receive a plaque and a flag to signify their status as National Blue Ribbon Schools.

The Department will honor approximately 219 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 12-13 in Washington, D.C. In its 30-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on nearly 7,000 of America’s schools.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students’ levels of achievement.

Star Valley High School is recognized as an “Exemplary High Performing” school, in which schools are recognized among their state’s highest performing schools, as measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests.

To select National Blue Ribbon Schools, the Department requests nominations from the top education official in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the Bureau of Indian Education.

District Director of Curriculum and past principal of SVHS, Shannon Harris, said,"I think this is amazing! I loved my eight years at SVHS and worked with the best staff ever. We have great students and such a supportive community and it all came together for us to allow us to be nominated and ultimately receive this recognition."
